River Song Waldorf School – Fort Collins, Colorado

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION. We should educate children so that all their concepts are capable of growth: that their concepts and will impulses are really alive. This is not easy. But an artistic education succeeds in doing it – Rudolf Steiner

Programs

Blossom Garden

This is an introductory program for the Early Childhood Program for children 18 months and older. The program runs every Saturday morning for parents and children to attend. It is an abbreviated version of what a child would experience in a day of early childhood education. The Blossom Garden is an 8 week program run by a qualified Waldorf instructor and is designed to familiarize families with the culture of a Waldorf School. Download the registration form here blossom-garden-enrollment-form-fall-2008_03. Please contact the office for more information.

Early Childhood Program

River Song Waldorf School’s Early Childhood Program offers 2 1/2 to 5 year olds a nurturing, home-like environment in which to transition to school life.

Taught by Waldorf instructors specifically trained in Early Childhood Education, the Pre-K nurtures and protects the young child’s sense of wonder and imagination. The Waldorf Pre-K makes rich the soil in which the young child grows.

Children are encouraged to explore, play, and imagine in a loving environment filled with natural materials. A wooden bowl filled with nuts and a couple of sea shells may become tea for two. A length of silk becomes a royal cape or fairy wings. Daily activities provide a comforting and reliable rhythm, including bread making and baking, watercolor painting, beeswax modeling, and puppet plays. Songs, nature walks, and stories honor the natural world and changing seasons.

Classroom

River Song Waldorf School has low Early Childhood care provider turnover because of a deep commitment to honoring the relationship between a young child and his or her daytime caretaker. Come to River Song and experience the difference this relationship-based model of nurture is all about.

Faculty: Marna Widom, Mary Ann Connelly

Assistants:  Marisa Farrah, Aroura Rouse, Elia Gilbert, April Kraus.

Kindergarten
